Lasso Your Target Market

As our newly minted superhero "Marketing Plan Woman" said last week, before you build or rebuild your website,
you want to have all your marketing ducks in a row. Taking the time to do this first ensures your site works for you and that you don't waste time and money on a site that isn't aligned with your business.

One of the key questions to answer in your marketing plan is:
Who is my target market and what do I know about them?

You want to identify a target market and then define it by asking the following questions:

What are their ages, gender, income level, level of education, where do they live…where do I find them

…this kind of information is called demographics.

Sometimes other stuff about your target market…like what kind of cars they drive, if they have kids or pets, or what they read, can be relevant to your marketing and how you reach out to them.

The more you know about them the easier it is to find them, know where and how to market and speak to them in your marketing copy.

For example in your website design this comes into play. We want to know if your clients are middle-class or in a higher income bracket. Mostly male or female or 50/50. Younger than 30 or over 40. Are they techie, nature loving, athletic, or kid-oriented? These details can be expressed in subtle and overt ways in the design to make visitors feel at home.
